On 14th–16th of October, we visited the teachers in Slim River, Gopeng and Gua Musang. On the first day, we picked Nora (Slim River) and Dinah (Gopeng) from their villages and headed to Gua Musang to meet Haini. The trip alone took us half a day. Since there is no proper road that leads to Haini’s village other than the dirt road, the journey would take us more than 2 hours. Therefore, Haini made a trip to meet us in Gua Musang town. We spent the evening updating each other on the progress of their schools and the challenges they are facing in the classrooms. The more experienced teachers, such as Dinah and Nora, shared their advices with Haini and gave her tips on classroom management. The teachers also updated us on the attendance and progress of their students. We felt encouraged, that despite the challenges the teachers are facing, they are determined to press on. We ended the evening with casual talks.

The next morning, we had breakfast together before continuing from where we left off the night before. Haini shared that she had some difficulties in coming up with arts and basic science lessons. We spent a good hour sharing ideas and showing examples of lessons she could use. We packed up and left Gua Musang at about 12.30PM. We said our goodbyes to Haini and headed back to Gopeng.

The next morning, we visited Dinah’s class. We managed to observe and take part in Dinah’s classroom activities. The children were polite albeit a little cheeky towards strangers. 🙂

After Dinah’s class ended, we said our goodbyes and drove back to Slim River. We dropped Nora off and headed back to KL. We are really glad to be able to visit the 3 teachers this trip. For the next trip, we are hoping to visit the teachers in Gerik as well.
