Step 1
Build the school on a solid foundation. It may involve collecting suitable soil from the nearby river as building material for the school’s foundation.
Step 2
Basic building materials such as wood for the frame, bamboo for the walls and metal zinc for the roof is needed. Power tools will provide a lot of relief to aching muscles.
Step 3
No heavy machineries available deep in the jungle. Only good old fashioned communal team work among the village folks. A remarkable experience seeing everyone volunteering their time, energy and resources to build the school.
Step 4
Lacquering every inch of the school is crucial in order to preserve the condition of the bamboo sticks and wood. No harm being a little artistic as well.
Step 5
Having tall and helpful residents in the village is really important when it comes to fixing the roof – especially if you do not have a ladder.
Step 6
Roll out the red carpet! Well, sort of. A pink linoleum sheet is a very useful surface especially when there will be kids writing, drawing and colouring on the bamboo floor.
