For the first and second week of pre-school classes went on smoothly. I am happy we have received a full attendance of 19 students every day with none playing truant. For the third week, the attendance was less than satisfactory as we received numerous visitors to our village. They include people from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia, anti-Malaria health authorities as well as people who came to ask about the *students who went missing last year. Their reading capabilities are still in level 1. Even though this school has been open for 3 months, the students have yet to master the alphabet and numbers. Their writing style is also less than satisfactory. They are still struggling as it is only their first year. They are definitely still trying their best to write. I hope I am able to find a way to teach students so that they are able to read and write themselves.

This year, we also started a tuition class for school going students and villagers who need the extra guidance and want to learn to read and write. We have changed the class time to 2 to 4 in the evening. There are 19 students who signed up for the tuition class, however only 15 of them are attending. The others student does attend from time to time.

This was the first few weeks of having the tuition class in the evenings. The reason for the change in time was to help accommodate the large number of students. The high number of students would have been hard to manage. The students from then tuition classes had some form of basic knowledge like writing even though they never went to school. On the other hand, the students who have been going to school are still not able to read and write properly. That being said, a few of these students are able to write very well now.

*2 of the students who went missing last year were from Haini’s village. Read here.
